Cyber firm's commercial advisor named Marine of the Year, to absolutely everyone's surprise (including his)
Dane Clackworthy has never, by his own admission, been to sea. He has now been crowned Marine of the Year.

In a result that has raised eyebrows across two entirely separate industries, Dane Clackworthy, commercial advisor at The Cyber Escape Room Co., has been named Marine of the Year.
Colleagues report that Clackworthy's closest previous encounter with maritime life was a pedalo incident in 2019 that he does not like to discuss. He was, sources say, “as surprised as anyone” and had to be shown the trophy twice before he believed it.
“I genuinely thought it was a wind-up,” he said. “I sit at a desk. I own one pair of wellies and they leak.”
Friends insist the honour is thoroughly deserved, though none could say precisely for what. “Dane's just got that energy,” offered one colleague, gesturing vaguely. “Steady under pressure. Good in a crisis. Bit like a marine, if you squint.”
The team at The Cyber Escape Room Co. marked the occasion in the traditional way: a cake, a card nobody had signed properly, and a round of applause that went on slightly too long. Clackworthy has requested that the trophy be kept “somewhere I don't have to look at it.”
He returns to his actual job in the morning.
